Story of yesterday,

Place : Office

What I do : Working

What is the story? : I need to draw line, straight lines on a book and I want it now! immediately. This is the first thing I need to do before I moved on with the rest.

I have got a red ink pen, but I need a ruler. I shouted to my colleague across the room for a ruler, " Hey, anyone got a ruler!, I want it now! " sounded rude, but this is the way we treat each other at times when things really get bad, when we want things badly enough, when we want to get things done, fast.

There are so many things to do and we have so little time.

There is this reply from my colleague, "I'm very sad to handover my ruler to you". She said that before she even open her drawer to lend me her ruler.

So, this is what I got :

I look at it, took it from her and said thanks…

Hmmm… Did I use it? : Yes.

Why I use it? : I wanted to draw a line, a straight line.

Do I have a choice? No, I don't think so, because that's the only ruler I can get at that time and I want it fast!

So, I just use it.

Did I accomplish my mission? Yes.

The bottom line is I managed to draw lines on my record book.

I'm happy that I can do just that. : )

Not only in building your MLM business, in life, you must have a target for yourself.

A target is knowing what you want to achieve. What exactly do you want?

Ask ourselves, this number one question : " What do I want? "

"We have to think of July. Month of June is already solved. July, we don't know what will happen", said Stanley. This is a norm, when it comes to business. You may do well this month and you know how much you will be getting, but you are not sure of your business in the coming months.

In MLM, there are some sales target that we need to achieve to entitle us for bonuses. Some company's compensation plans requires you to maintain personal sales, some is group sales and some requires you to maintain both personal and group sales each month.

Beside the sales requirement to entitle for bonuses or income, there are other targets that you may want to set for yourself. Every month, one should set a target to close certain sales for himself.

A target actually gives you a route to achieve something that you have set. It also helps you to evaluate your performance and helps you to watch your activities and to see what went wrong. It also eliminates procrastination.

"What is procrastination? your words are very deep, I need to open my dictionary," said Stanley, laughing, saying that word is more than 12 letters.

	There is this saying :

" It is not enough to aim, you must hit your target ! "

I stopped my colleague who was wearing this, and took a picture of it.

First Phrase : You are quite good in term of customer service. You pleased somebody today.

Second Phrase : Oh… That's too bad!!!

Third Phase : What? @#!*% . . . Then when?

Customer Service is a very wide topic of discussion.

It has been implemented and practice a very long time ago and it has come into picture again today in this very competitive market in whatever area of business.

The most important, yet never been practice words in our everyday conversation is disappearing. Words such as "Thank you", "Please", "I am Sorry", "Excuse me".

The bottom line is, if you provide a good service to your customers, they will keep coming back to you. They may recommend more friends to you. What you do is to make them happy. A happy customer will bring you another customer.

Once upon a time, a tortoise and a hare had an argument on who is the fastest runner. They agreed on a route to start a race to settle on the disagreement.

And as you all know, the tortoise won the race.

Let's refresh a little, shall we? The hare was far ahead of the tortoise and figured out that he take some time to relax under a tree before continuing the race. The hare fell asleep.

The tortoise moved on, overtook him and soon finished the race and emerged as the champ! The hare woke up and realized that he had lost the race.

This is the version of the story we all grown up with, slow and steady wins the race.

The story continues…

Part 2 :

The hare was disappointed and he did some soul-searching and realized he was overconfident and careless. If he had not taken things for granted, there's no way the tortoise could have beaten him.

So he is taking a revenge and challenged the tortoise to another race. The tortoise agreed.

This time, the hare went all out, not giving any chances to his opponent and ran without stopping from start to finish. He won by several miles.

The moral of the story is – Fast and Consistent will always beat the Slow and Steady. In any organization, one is slow and reliable person and the other is fast and also reliable, the latter will consistently climb the organization ladder faster than the slow chap. It's good to be slow and steady, but it's better to be fast and reliable.

But the story doesn't end here…

Part 3 :

The tortoise did some thinking this time, asking himself "How can I win the hare?" and he was aware that there's no way he can beat the hare in a race the way it was currently formatted.

The tortoise thought for a while and challenged the hare for another race, but on a different route and the hare agreed, with full of confidence.

So off they went! The hare, still hold on to his commitment to be consistently fast, ran at top speed until he came to a broad river. He stopped. The finishing line is a couple of kilometers on the other side of the river. He was wondering what to do.

The tortoise came along, got into the river and swam across. He continued walking and finished the race.

The moral of the story – First identify your core competency and then change the playing field to suit your core competency. Working on your strengths will create opportunities for growth and advancement.

Please hold on, The story still hasn't ended…

Part 4 :

The hare and the tortoise, by this time had become good friends and they did some thinking together. The last race could have been run much better.

So they decided to do the last race again, but to run as a team this time and break the fastest time record. They help each other.

They started off, and this time the hare carried the tortoise till the riverbank.

There, the tortoise took over and swam across with the hare on his back.

On the opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and they reached the finishing line together.

They both felt a greater sense of satisfaction than they had felt earlier.

The moral of the story – It's good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies. But unless you're able to work as a team and harness each others core competencies, you'll always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you'll do poorly and someone else does well.

Teamwork is mainly about situational leadership letting the person with the relevant core competency for a situation take leadership.

Other lessons to be learnt :

Note that both the hare and the tortoise never give up after failures. The hare decided to work harder and put in extra effort after his failure. The tortoise changed his strategy because he was already working as hard as he could.

In life, when faced with failure, sometimes it is appropriate to work harder and put in more effort. Sometimes it is appropriate to change strategy and try something different. And sometimes it is appropriate to do both.

The hare and the tortoise also learnt another vital lesson. When we stop competing against a rival and instead start competing against the situation, we perform far better.

Everyone have their own strengths and weaknesses. Let's combine and perform as a team.

My strengths may be your weaknesses, But your strengths may be my weaknesses.

Recently, I went for lunch at a restaurant. I ordered my food and drink.

After I am done, I approached the cashier counter to pay for my meal.

There was no one at the counter. So I waited patiently and the other staff noticed I was there, but they continued with their work. I was ignored. I asked the other staff in the beverage section to assist. He said " wait for the cashier "

So, I waited. There was another customer came and wanted to buy a bottle of mineral water. He couldn't wait, put down the bottle and left.

So I did the same! Hahaaha…

I don't know about the other guy who took some sweet and wanted to pay for his meal. He was there at the counter with me, waited for about 5 minutes to make payment. I have no idea what he do, after he saw me left.

I think back and put myself in the restaurant owner's shoe and felt that was a lost for the restaurant. The restaurant is open for business and provide service but didn't get paid from me and a few others. What if the cashier is not there for that whole day and no one from other department come to assist? How much they will lose?

So, the lesson is "Whatever you do, you must get paid." Same goes to MLM business. As distributors, everyone should know how are they being paid for their effort. They will know if they learn about the Marketing Plan for the MLM company he/she represent.

We had a workshop recently. One of the activities is to write about others. Each of us were given a big piece of paper to be placed at the back of us and we were are given a marker pen to write about the good points of our office friends.

The photo above shows all about the lady. She is "peramah" (Talkative or Approachable), Hardworking, Helpful, Good Leader, Teamwork, a Thoughtful Person, etc.

After about 20 minutes of music and the fun going around writing on as much as possible about our office staff, it's time to get back to our seats and look at what our friends wrote about us.

How does these words make you feel? These words really make you feel good.

Whether you know it or not, these positive words either make you realize about the good things that you possessed or make you change the way you look at others. (that is to look at others in a positive way – Look at the good side)
